It's Fruity Friday! It's Fruity Friday! It's Fruity Friday! It's Friday!

Goose class, Miss Rose and I can't believe it's our last day with you! What will we do without you?! We are so very proud of you all, and are certain that you will have a fantastic time in Year 2 with your new teacher. You have flabbergasted us with your enthusiasm to learn, kindness and resilience.  Miss Rose and I have a gift for each of you and we have also made a class photograph. If you are not in school, don't worry, we shall get it to you when you are back at school in September.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to all parents for your hard work and support. You have been amazing!

Miss Rose and I have made a 'Goodbye!' video, with some highlights of your time in Year 1.

WE WILL MISS YOU ALL! Have a super summer!

Monday 12th July 2020

Good Morning, Goose class! It is your last week in Year 1! Oh, my! This week you will be able to watch a 'Hello' message from your new teacher. You will have a fantastic year with Miss Watkin! (I've told her how amazing you all are!) I have more exciting news: Ushna now has a beautiful baby brother! Congratulations, Ushna and family!

Today, Goose Class Productions presents a traditional tale which has been imagined, written and performed by Marilyn!

Let's have a wonderful week!

Mrs Cartwright and Miss Rose xxx

Let's start the dance with a dance. This song will make Sufyan very happy (he requests it at least 3 times  a day!) it's Can't stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake.

Mermaid Two by Marilyn

Marilyn wrote her own traditional tale one evening at home, inspired by the work we have been doing that day in class. Her story is packed full of drama, exciting language and delivered with feeling and expression. Marilyn, this is a masterclass on how to perform to an audience. We were all flabbergasted!

Mystery Baby revealed - It's Emaan!

We have a new Goose!

This is Mohammed, he joined Goose class at the beginning of this half term and you will all get a chance to meet him in September.

Goose Gallery!

Sayfullah has been hard at work, he even created a lemon volcano!

Here are some pictures of what we have been doing in class.

Wake up, Goose class, it's Wednesday!

I have a Mystery Bonus Baby Cheeky Challenge. Who do you think this lovely baby could be? It's not Mr Darling. It's not Miss Rose, Miss Tahira or Miss Jennings! It's one of your classmates. Can you work it out and earn 5 house points for your team? Good luck!

Mrs Cartwright and Miss Rose xx

Who is this beautiful baby ?

Goose Gallery!

I received this lovely letter (sent by Pigeon post!) from Maja. She would like to own a Pigeon and then stay up late watching TV with her feathered friend!

In school we have timing ourselves running over a set distance. We are trying to beat our record or 10 seconds. Sufyan is taking it very seriously! Run, Goose class, run like  wind!

Mathematician's at work, carefully considering 2D shapes!

In Literacy we have been sequencing a traditional tale. I am so impressed with the different sentence types used: statements, questions, exclamations and even... (wait and see) ellipsis! Here are some examples.

Finally, we created zoomorphic creatures, combining the arms of an octopus with body parts from other animal types. The results: an Octobear,  Octobunny and the  Octobird man!

Monday 6th July 2020

Good morning, Goose class! We hope you've had a lovely, relaxing weekend. Last week, children in school, and at home, were writing and performing poetry. Below is Ushna's poem about the sea (beautifully written and illustrated). I also have  a video of the children in school performing their own nonsense poems about the sea. They memorised them, added actions and then performed their work, making sure that they spoke clearly and with expression. Everyone did really well!

Have a super day,

Mrs Cartwright and Miss Rose xx

In school we have been learning how to identify trees from their leaves. We made a book of leaf rubbings. The results are really beautiful!

Its Friday! It's Fruity! It's Fruity Friday! It's... Pigeon time!

Good Morning, Goose class! I hope you all have had a good week. Lots of you recognised that Mystery Baby Y was Ushna! Well done to everyone who correctly guessed! I will award you 5  house points! (If you didn't send a baby photo and would like to be involved, then email me with a photograph and we can test the observational skills of your classmates. (The full video can be found here.) Today, as promised, I have a new Pigeon story! Hurray! I also have photographs of poetry the children have been writing in school. If you have poems that you did at home, please send them in, Miss Rose and I would love to see (or hear) them.

Have a lovely day,

Mrs Cartwright and Miss Rose xx

A sneaky peak of a new story... Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!

Wednesday 1st July 2020

Good morning, Goose class! Today, by popular demand, I have an extra mystery baby challenge. There is also a sneaky peak at the last chapters of The Twits and a look at some of your work in the Goose Gallery (plus some pigeon news!).

The Big Bad Wolf (my husband), says thank you for your lovely messages. He is very happy, Yassin, that you have forgiven him, and that he made all your family laugh with his story! If you missed Wolf's apology, you can listen to it here!

Bonus Mystery Baby!

Thank you to everyone for their enthusiastic response to the Mystery Baby Cheeky challenge: you did incredibly well and MANY house points have been earned for your teams. However, no one correctly identified Yassin as Baby X! So, I have decided to give you another opportunity to earn the extra 5 house points with Mystery Bonus Baby Y. I am not giving any names to help you, all I will say, is that they are a child from Goose class! Hmm... ? Good Luck!

Ssh... A sneaky peak at the last chapters of The Twits!

We have got to the end of this chapter book and those mean and nasty Twits get turned upside down and ...

Ushna has been doing some impressive division work in maths and,  has been combining her knowledge of shapes and shopping to solve some money addition problems! Ushna has also achieved 100% in three AR quizzes! A massive well done!

Sayfullah sent in a fantastic fact file about the Blue Whale, the spellings he has been practising, his French work on colours and a cheeky maths reasoning task that I set him. Miss Rose and I are really proud of the way all of you who are learning at home are tackling the tasks we set.

Malaika proved in science that she would be an excellent botanist. Here she is with a variety of sunflower called Little Leo, that she planted at home, during the Lockdown. It is a very healthy  plant and, has started to flower! It is so exciting! She also has some tomato plants and is looking forward to tasting their delicious fruits!

Maja and Malaika love the Pigeon! (Excellent use of a question mark and speech bubble, Maja!). To create their versions of the Pigeon, they followed the video I shared with everyone last Wednesday (If you scroll down this page you will find it). I think Mo Willems (the author and illustrator) would be very impressed girls. I am!  The next story, Don't Let The Pigeon Stay Up Late! will be ready in time for Fruity Friday!

Monday 29th June 2020

Good Morning, Goose class! This morning I have a message for you from Yassin's 'Big Bad Wolf'. Today, I also have identity of the babies in the Mystery Baby Cheeky Challenge! Were you muddled by Miguel? Mystified by Maja? Bamboozled by Baby B? Then watch the video, to learn the answers  - I have been amazed at how well some of you did!

Have a magnificent day and remember to visit our Home Learning page for fun activities.

Mrs Cartwright and Miss Rose xx

A message from the Big Bad Wolf!

Yassin's Big Bad Wolf is sorry for all the mischief he caused when he stole your work, and, to say sorry, he has agreed to read you a very funny story about a Grumpy Frog! (If you missed seeing the Big Bad Wolf in Yassin's story, The Mystery, when it appeared here a month ago, you can still see it (and other fantastic stories by your class mates) by visiting our Goose Class Productions page. )

It's Friday!

Good morning, good morning, Goose class! It's Fruity Friday and what treats we have for you today! Goose class, you have proved to be so good at solving my mystery picture challenges, that I have had to think very hard to come up with something extra tricky... It's a  Mystery Baby Cheeky Challenge! Today, you can also have a sneaky peak at a new story... not the pigeon (I am saving that for next week)...  This is another story about Noi, called Grandma Bird. In this book, Noi goes to visit his Grandma and has an adventure.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Carnival and Miss Posy xx

Mystery Baby Cheeky Challenge!

I have pictures of 8 babies and 8 names. Can you match the correct name to the correct baby? I have been very generous and provided you with the 8 names, but who is who?  You will need to use all your powers of observation to work it out! Email me your answers and for each correct baby, you could earn 2 house points! Good Luck!  I will reveal the answers on monday.

Hot off the press  - the Big Bad Wolf had taken one of the baby pictures! He felt very bad, and says that he is sorry! So, Goose class, you now have an extra baby to guess! I am not giving any help with their name. For an extra 5 house points, who is Baby X?

Areesha has revisited Augustus and His Smile. I am very impressed with all the detail that she included and her use of capital letters and full stops. Super work, Areesha! She has also done some super caterpillar division! It looks like it would be great fun to do.

In school, two mathematical superstars have also been hard at work practising their division. I very impressed with the way their work is so clear and organised!

I LOVE READING!

Remember, Goose class, read, read, read!

Monday 22nd June 2020

Good morning Goose class!

We hope you had a lovely weekend. Lots of you correctly identified the mystery person in the Mystery Film Challenge, it was me (20 years ago)! Marilyn even guessed it before she saw the film! So today, I have a trickier picture challenge! We also have a video Miss Rose has made showing you how to make a beautiful swimming sea turtle. I also have the next two chapters of The Twits, we are nearly at the end, and those 'frumptious frunians' are about to get very sticky! Don't forget to visit the Home learning page for our daily activities; you will have ' whale' of a time!

Have a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day!

Ushna, has sent in this terrific drawing of a toucan. It is drawn so well, I feel as though it is looking at me! I particularly like the way Ushna has covered the whole page and placed her toucan in the centre of the page: it is very effective.

Areesha has been practising her times tables in and out of order. She has also been learning to write her address, which she did perfectly, with capital letters in all the right places. I have hidden it so that you can't see it, because it is important to keep private information safe.

Super scientists have been at work in school, discussing what plants need to grow and labelling the parts of a plant. Brilliant work, Goose class, I am very proud of you.

It's Fruity Friday!

Good morning, good morning, Goose class! It's Fruity Friday and what treats we have for you today! Inspired by Miss Rose, and her peg language, Maja has made a short film using peg puppets. It is sooo good! Today, you can also have a sneaky peak at a new story... at last, the Pigeon is back! I also have a marvellous Mystery Person Challenge for you to tackle... I wonder if you will be able to solve it! Remember, wether you are in school, or at home, you can always email me to say hello (it makes my day!).

Areesha and I have been testing each other to see how observant we can be (Areesha has even spotted some missing capital letters and full stops in my emails!). Here is a challenge to see how observant you all are! In this short film, you meet two maids talking about the types of food that were popular over 100 years ago. Your challenge is this, do you recognise anyone in this film? If you do, who is it? You could earn 5 pizza points...I mean house points if you are correct!

Sayfullah has been busy, creating Venn Diagrams, practising his spellings and learning the names of French fruits. This is very impressive work, Sayfullah!

In school, Fatimah produced a magnificent retelling of The Storm Whale! She has used time connectives and adjectives to create an exciting piece of writing. It is thoughtful and beautiful, Fatimah!

Marilyn has worked hard on her spellings and is making corrections and editing her work. Well done, Marilyn!

Malaika has written a descriptive and exciting opening line to her retelling of The Storm Whale. She has started it with,  'One Windy day'. What a perfect opening line; it made me want to read more! Well done, Malaika!

Good morning, Goose class! Today I have a beautiful new story for you by Benji Davies. It's called The Storm Whale in Winter.  I have also found a video of Benji Davies explaining how to draw Noi; it is really lovely to watch (you even get to see his daughter!) and quite easy to follow. I also have some surprise 'pigeon' news and, in the Goose Gallery, you can see some super work from children in school, and at home. But first, I have found a new version of one of our favourite songs, it is sung, accompanied and danced by people all around the world, it is, Lean On Me!

I will have a new story for you on Friday! By popular demand the pigeon will be back ,and this time, he'll have a hot dog... (wait and see)

Goose Gallery!

In school, Sufyan, Eli Noah, Amran, Malaika, Fatimah, Miguel, Abkar, Marilyn and Zimaam have created some fantastic 'Storm Whale' inspired art, using different paint and collage techniques. You can admire their work more closely in the Storm Whale Art Gallery . (Miguel, you seem to have blue lips! Did you try to eat your picture?) If you would like to have a go at home, visit the Home Learning page to find out more. If you would like me to add any of your whale pictures, then email them to me at year1@missiongrove.org.uk

At home, Sayfullah created a swimming whale, and has written a beautiful description of what he  would do if he found a whale on a beach. What super storytelling, Sayfullah!

On this day in 1977, Miss Rose got married! Happy wedding anniversary, Miss Rose from Goose class! Click here to listen to a special piece of music for Miss Rose and her husband.

Lots of you correctly said that the giddy goose in all our displays is called Silly Suzy! Well done! Today, Miss Rose has thought of a brilliant challenge. Do you speak peg language? Watch the video below to find out more.  I also have a new story for you to enjoy - I Don't Like GLORIA! - and more wedding anniversary art in the Goose Gallery!  Don't forget to visit the Home learning page for our daily activities; we have, as always, some lovely things planned for you this week.

Have a splendid day!

Do you speak 'peg' language!

Inspired by our Portrait Gallery, Miss Rose created a 'Miss Rose' and a 'Mrs Cartwright' peg puppet! She then filmed our peg puppets. But what are we saying to each other? Do you speak 'peg' language? What do you think we are saying? Email us at year1@missiongrove.org.uk with your ideas. Maja has created some beautiful art work to celebrate Miss Rose's Wedding Anniversary. She knows that Miss Rose loves art!

Areesha is an enthusiastic home learner and I really enjoy our exchange of emails about all subjects. I am impressed with the way Areesha followed an improvement point about letter formation and set about making her work even better!

Ushna is doing really well with her times tables, in her book and also on her TTRockstars account. She is also using her knowledge of multiplication to tackle division problems.

Thank you, Laiba for sending in this fantastic art work for Miss Rose!

It's Fruity Friday! What a wet week it has been! It reminded me of Augustus and His Smile and how happy we felt when we read about him dancing in the rain. Every time we played Singing In The Rain, in class, Miss Rose missed it, so here it is again! Well done to Areesha and Ushna, they both correctly guessed the age of the oak tree; it is 205 years old. It is a very big and wide tree! How did you get on in school? If you guessed correctly maybe Miss Hussain will award you 2 house points! I also have a new 'Goosey Mystery' for you to solve!

We hope you have a lovely  weekend,

A 'Goosey Mystery'!

Last summer, when I knew I was going to be your teacher, I started looking for a really lovely image of a goose for our Goose classroom.  One, was Gertie the Galloping Goose from Lost in the Toy Museum. But there has been another goose in our class whose name I haven't told you (even Miss Rose doesn't know). It's that giddy goose who has appeared all over our displays! Look carefully at the picture below, can you spot the giddy goose? What is this giddy goose's name? Watch the short film below to find out. Email your answer and you could earn 2 goose points... I mean house points!

Areesha is 6 years old today! Below is a picture of me holding a birthday sign for Areesha standing beside a very big oak tree. You can tell how old an oak tree is by its size. I have a challenge for you all! How old do you think this big oak tree is? Is it:

a) 6 years old (like Areesha)

b) 30 years old (like Mr Darling!)

c) 205 years old (not quite like me!)

Email your guess to year1@missiongrove.org.uk (You could earn 2 house points!) I will reveal the answer on Friday!

Help!

Goose class, Year 6 need your help! Do you have a question about oceans that you would like to have answered? Year 6 are writing a non-fiction text about oceans, and heard that we are learning about oceans as well. They want to work with us! Can you think of any questions about oceans that you would like to have answered? Send your questions to me and I will pass them on to the Year 6 children who will then do some research to find out the answers. They will share their final pieces of writing on the website for us to read. So, think of a question about the world's oceans and send it to me!

Hello Goose class!

Hello, Goose class! It's Fruity Friday! I have absolutely loved hearing and seeing all your hellos! There has been a fantastic LOUD hello from Maja who is busy working at home (look at the boat she is standing in front of, it's called Snow Goose!) and funny and thoughtful hellos from my giddy geese who are in school. I sometimes feel lonely when I am working from home and these have really cheered me up. You have done so well this week, those working from home and the children in school. Miss Rose and I are hugely proud of you!

Don't forget to draw a self portrait. I have put all the details on the Home Learning page. Make sure you write 'Hello!' and your name on the front. I have a treat for you today, Miss Rose has made us a video explaining how to make a swimming whale! How perfect for our new topic, 'Under The Sea'! Miguel has done some fantastic maths work this week! Miss Rose told me how well you completed this task, Miguel, and she was right. I couldn't believe my eyes! Subtraction, without a number line and three digit numbers!  I was fl a _ _ er _ a st _ _ !

Fatimah has written a very thoughtful diary entry as Noi from The Storm Whale. I am very impressed with the way Fatimah has used 'I' and 'my' in her diary writing, also, I  am delighted to see the way she has edited her work and made corrections. Well done, Fatimah!

Sayfullah has been making observations of changes in the seasons, adding coins  and practising his handwriting. Sayfullah, I can see how well you are progressing and I know how hard you are working. Keep it up!

Ushna has been thinking about the animals that live under the sea and practising her 2 and 3 times tables. Ushna is doing really well with her reading quizzes and TTRockstars and has also been thinking about her friends in Goose class.

Sshh... a sneaky peak at The Twits chapters 16 - 20

In which we meet four sticky little boys, some upside down monkeys and the Roly-Poly bird comes to the rescue. If you missed the chapters 1 - 15 you can find them here.

Would you like to say 'Hello!' to all your friends? I've come up with a clever plan; draw a picture of yourself holding a sign saying 'Hello!' then send your picture to me and I will put it on here! Maybe, Rose can show any we receive to the children who are in school. I know they would like to see their friends. I had a go at drawing one and I used this video to help me get started.
