Handwriting: Can you think of  a sentence using one of the words you were writing yesterday? For example, I like jam on my toast.
Remember:
Form your letters carefully.

First, draw a large picture of Bunting. You can use the image below to help.
Next, write words describing Bunting around the outside of your picture.
Then, write words that describe how he might be feeling inside your picture.
Finally, can you use your ideas to write a character description of Bunting?

Allah is the Islamic name for God. The members of this faith are called Muslims. The Islamic name for god is Allah and Muslims believe that Allah created all things and that we have a responsibility to care for Allah’s creation. What is responsibility?

Here are the first two pages.Look at the pictures and read the sentence (you can ask an adult to help you, or they can read it to you).

I wonder what Bunting the cat is thinking. Your task today  is to pretend that you are Bunting! Can you write some sentences about what you are thinking or feeling? Please send us photographs of your work. You can contact us at Year1@missiongrove.org.uk (Please put your class name in the subject, that way your teacher is sure to see it.We love to hear from you.

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Hello again Year 1! It's Miss Knight again. I hope you're all feeling great and ready to learn.  We have some great lessons for you today, but first, it's time for you to warm up. Today we're going to start by having a morning dance.  On the North Site, we really like to dance along with Shakira's Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) so join us and dance along here.

Maths

Starter:

Last week, you were learning how to tell the time to o'clock and half past. Using the clocks some of you made last week, or a blank clock faces like the ones below, can you show or draw the times:

2 o'clock

7 o'clock

11 o'clock

6 o'clock

9 o'clock

Extra! - Half past 3

You can use blank clock faces like these to help you:

Take picture of your clock at the different times or show us the clocks you drew and send them to year1@missiongrove.org.uk for us to check!

Main Activity: Number and Place Value:

This week. we are looking at number and place value. Today, we are using number tracks to help us.

Copy the numbers in our number tracks and find the missing numbers. Use your 100 squares from yesterday to help you if you need. Remember, the missing numbers may be going forwards or backwards, so check if the numbers are getting bigger or smaller.

Literacy

Handwriting:

Practice forming a long letter! It comes down below the line. It is the letter ‘j’.  For Jack-in-a-box!

Remember to start at the top, down his body, curl, dot for his head. Keep saying this rhyme as you form the letter. Take your time!

Starter:

Look at the picture and sentence above. Can you improve the sentence to make it more interesting? Try adding some exciting adjectives (describing words) to the sentence to make it more exciting.

Main Activity: Making A Prediction

Look at the first picture from our new book. (We are not going to tell you what it is called yet!)

What do you notice about the picture? What sort of toys are they?

Does anything puzzle you?

Your task today is to write a prediction about what might happen next in the story. Your sentence might start with ‘I think’. For example: I think the toys are going to a party because they look very excited.’

Science

Starter:

Can you match the object to the correct recycling bin? Look at what the object is made of. Which bin do they go in.

Main Activity – Materials Hunt

This term we will be learning about materials. Objects around us are made of different materials. Some of the materials can be seen in the picture below.

Today, we are going on a materials hunt. Have a look around your house to find one object made from each of the materials below (don’t worry if you can’t find them all). Make labels with the name of each material you find written on. Take pictures of your objects and labels and send them to year1@missiongrove.org.uk so we can see what you find.

We are looking for 8 different materials.

Think about why that material was used for that object. Is it tough so it won’t break? Is it soft so will be comfortable?

Happy searching!

Monday 11th January 2021
