Year 6

For our Home Learning activities, please click on the 'Year 6 Home Learning' tab (to the right on Desktop, or scroll to the bottom on mobile).

Like the other year groups we cover the full spectrum of the Primary Curriculum, go on exciting school trips and attend a variety of extra-curricular clubs. However, in Year 6 the children have the added challenge of preparing and taking their SATS exams as well as becoming secondary ready.

P.E

Children are expected to wear full, correct kits which includes; a white t-shirt, black trousers or shorts and black trainers/ plimsolls. In addition, children should take off any watches and children with long hair need to be able to tie this up. Please ensure your child is fully prepared on their particular days.

SATS

SATS are tests that all primary school children take at the end of Year 6. They are tested in numeracy, English grammar and reading comprehension and this will determine their level at the end of Key Stage 2.  There will be a special coffee morning about the SATS towards the end of the Autumn term. In the meantime, you can help your child prepare by encouraging them to read as much as possible and to practice their times tables.

Home learning

Children should be reading for at least 30 minutes every day and parent/carers should sign their child's home reading journal at least once a week with any comments about their reading. Additionally, spellings will be sent home each week and must be practiced and learned to assist your child's writing.

Trips including the PGL residential

In Year 6 we like to enrich our topics with as many outdoor learning opportunities as possible. Trips to look forward to this year include a fantastic trip to the HMS Belfast, a FREE cinema visit as part of the Into Film Festival and a Christmas treat to watch a Theatre show.  

 In the Autumn we are lucky enough to be taking year 6 on our third PGL residential trip to the Isle of Wight, where we will be staying overnight for four nights. We will take part in many exciting activities such as quad biking, climbing and abseiling.
